Ethnic language center to be launched at Begum Rokeya University

An “Ethnic Languages ​​Center” will soon be launched at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) with the aim of preserving and developing the languages ​​of small ethnic groups scattered in different parts of the country.

BRUR Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah made the statement during a virtual discussion on the occasion of “Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day-2021” at BRUR Sunday.

Wreaths were laid in the name of Vice-Chancellor, Pro VC Prof Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina, and Treasurer Prof Dr. Hasibur Rashid at the university’s Shaheed Minar at midnight one in honoring the martyrs of the language movement, reports BSS .

In the morning, the national flag was hoisted at half mast on the university campus followed by the observation of a minute of silence.

Deans of different faculties, heads of different departments, leaders of Begum Rokeya University Teachers Association and Officers Association, officials and employees, leaders of different student organizations filed wreaths at Shaheed Minar.

Later, Prof. Kalimullah attended the virtual discussion as the main guest under the chairmanship of Prof. Pro VC Sarifa Salowa Dina.

Moderated by Bangabandhu Provost Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of BRUR Tabiur Rahman Prodhan, University Treasurer Prof. Dr. Hasibur Rashid spoke as special guest.

BRUR’s Public Relations, Information and Publishing Division Administrator Prof. Nazmul Haque presented the main essay.

A mahfil milad followed by an offering of special munajats was held at the central mosque of the university after Johr’s prayers asking for divine blessings for the deceased souls of the martyrs of the linguistic movement.

Paying a rich tribute to the Father of the National Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, martyrs of the linguistic movement and of the liberation war, the speakers recalled the glorious contribution of teachers and students during the linguistic movement.

The main guest said that Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day have brought unique honor to the nation and have become a symbol of unity and victory for the protection of the mother tongues of all the peoples of the world.

He called on all those concerned, especially the younger generations, to uphold the honor of the Bengali language by ensuring its proper use at all levels.
