Local scenes from Lauderdale House and OmVed Gardens feature in the Highgate Watercolor Group’s annual exhibition.
Presented at Lauderdale House, the exhibition will feature the work of approximately 20 members who meet weekly at the Highgate Society’s headquarters in South Grove.
Artist Vanessa Whinney said she managed to make use of this summer’s glorious weather by painting outdoors, including several outings to OmVed Gardens and the exhibition space at Townsend Yard, Highgate.
“It’s a rather wonderful outdoor space, developed from a former garden center and transformed into a private wild garden. A holistic space that encompasses seed saving and showcases collections of native vegetables and plants,” he said. she declared.
“It is located on a steep slope with a winding path that takes you through tall grass and flowers to a series of wildlife ponds. It was a magical place for the Group to paint on many occasions, thanks to the friendliness of the owners.”
She hopes the paintings created by members of OmVed and beyond will encourage visitors to buy works at the exhibition, which runs for a month from October 26. Her own contribution includes scenes from Suffolk where she paints regularly.
“Having finally been able to travel, we painted at home and abroad, with one of Highgate’s favorite hotspots, East Anglia, in the spotlight,” she added.
Formed in 1980 as part of the Highgate Society, the group is a mix of professional artists and new converts to watercolor painting, who meet weekly in an informal, friendly atmosphere to paint together, arrange tours tutors and role models and venture outside. The group is open to new members who live near Highgate and share an enthusiasm for the art form.
The Highgate Watercolor Group’s annual exhibition runs from 26 October to 21 November at Lauderdale House, Highgate. Open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. More details at https://www.lauderdalehouse.org.uk/ https://www.highgatewatercolour.org.uk/
