Murders in the Southeast: No ethnic group has a monopoly on violence – AYCF

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) said the alleged killing of northerners in the southeast presupposes a program of ethnic cleansing.

The AYCF, in a statement by its National President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, warned South East Governors to take urgent action to ‘end the killing of innocent people in the North or face the legal consequences of their inaction’ .

Outlaw Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) militants have been reported to have killed a woman, her four children and six other northerners in Isulo, Orumba North local government area of the country on Sunday. of Anambra State.

However, emerging from an emergency meeting in Kaduna, the AYCF said the killing of northerners working or trading in the South East at the slightest opportunity was completely unacceptable.

He said: “The fact that the governors of the South East are the heads of the security of their states but do nothing to stop the unprovoked murder of the inhabitants of the North presupposes a program of ethnic cleansing and we condemn it, under whatever whatever form – IPOB or ESN attack.

“The murder of a mother and the baby she was cuddling as well as the Nordic-born Christian aeronautical engineer means the lives of our own people are no longer valued in the South East, where IPOB, ESN and supposedly unknown gunmen do as they please as non-state actors, unimpeded.

“The silence of these Governors, despite the brutal attacks on our sons and daughters in the South East, must end now and we want to sound our note of warning, that no Nigerian has a monopoly on violence and that Northerners’ respect for the rule of law should never be seen as a weakness.
